Kent School Services Network
What is KSSN?
Kent School Services Network (KSSN) is a partnership that brings essential community resources directly into our schools to support students and families. By connecting families to services right at school—such as counseling, basic-needs assistance, mentoring, health services, and community program referrals—KSSN helps remove barriers that can impact a child’s ability to learn and attend school regularly.
Each Kentwood Public Schools building has a Community School Coordinator who helps ensure students have the support they need to be present, engaged, and successful. With a strong focus on improving attendance and reducing chronic absenteeism, KSSN works alongside school teams to address challenges that keep students from coming to school consistently.
In short, KSSN strengthens the connection between school, family, and community so students can learn, grow, and thrive.
What is a Community School Coordinator?
A Community School Coordinator is a dedicated professional who serves as a bridge between the school, families, and community partners. In Kentwood Public Schools, Coordinators identify barriers that affect student success—especially those related to attendance—and connect families with resources that promote stability and regular school participation.
Coordinators collaborate with principals and staff to bring in mental-health supports, tutoring, mentoring, basic-needs assistance, and enrichment opportunities. They help monitor attendance patterns, problem-solve with families, and support early intervention efforts to keep students on track.
By coordinating these wraparound services, the Community School Coordinator helps ensure every student is healthy, supported, and ready to learn—strengthening overall student success and reducing chronic absenteeism.
