From the Principal's Desk
Southwood Elementary was identified as a “Reward School” based on the latest scorecards released from the Michigan Department of Education. A Reward School is a school with outstanding student achievement or growth over the past three years. There were 112 Reward Schools in the state of Michigan to receive this status. Southwood Elementary continues to outperform schools, on the state standardized tests, with similar economic and demographic makeups as ours. I would like to thank our students, staff, and parents for receiving this recognition. We work extremely hard to make sure all of our students reach their fullest potential. We are very proud of this honor!
Our school community holds high expectations for all students to learn and develop respect for self and others. Through a cooperative effort, the Southwood families, students, and staff assume responsibility for a safe and orderly environment to maximize personal achievement and improvement of society.
We, the staff of Southwood Elementary School, in partnership with community, will insure an environment to enhance growth academically, socially, physically, and emotionally according to the individual need of students. We will measure observable growth in those areas to develop future citizens and to promote the desire for lifelong learning.
The total staff of Southwood Elementary School, in cooperation with home and community, is committed to creating a child-centered, safe environment. All students will achieve their individual best academically, physically, socially, emotionally, and aesthetically. Our vision for all students is that they become life-long learners, have respect for themselves and others, and achieve personal fulfillment. Together, as a family, we will assure this base for a productive future.
