Notice to Kentwood Public Schools Fifth Grade Parents

Notice to Kentwood Public Schools Fifth Grade Parents,

The Kentwood Board of Education has established a program of reproductive health in accordance with the State of Michigan Public Act 226/335/289.  The Board of Education, by recommendation of the Kentwood Reproductive Health Advisory Committee, has adopted an elementary program for reproductive health to be taught at the fifth grade level.  The Advisory Committee is composed of parents, educators, clergy, medical professionals and other community members.

According to these acts, parents/guardians have the right to review the material to be utilized in this program.  In compliance with the statute, the materials will be made available for review at a 6:00 PM meeting on Monday, December 8, at Glenwood Elementary in the Media Center.  At that time parents may review materials used in the fifth grade reproductive health program.

By law, parents/guardians have the right to excuse their child from participation in the reproductive health unit without academic penalty.  If your family decision is to excuse your child from participation, please call your child's teacher to make her/him aware of your decision.

If you have questions or concerns, please contact your child's teacher or Principal
