Dear Brookwood Elementary School Parents,          

The Brookwood PTC welcomes you back to school and is working hard to make sure that the 2011-2012 school year is a fun and exciting year for you and your child. 

Please take a few moments and review this handout.  We have detailed all the PTC events and described the volunteer opportunities available to you.  If you are interested in helping with any activity, please fill out the form at the end of the handout and return it to school with your child.            

We have also enclosed a form if you would like your child’s name and contact information to be placed into the Brookwood Directory.  The directory is for Brookwood families and lists the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of the students, the name of the room parent, and days of the week for classroom specials, i.e. gym, music, art, and library.  Placing this information into the directory is strictly voluntary.          

 Finally, we would like to invite all parents to attend our monthly PTC meetings.  Meetings are held on the 2nd Monday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the library.  Our first meeting will be held on October 10th.  This is a great way to meet other parents and get to know all the teachers.  We are always looking for new ideas on how to improve the Brookwood experience.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES 

Room Parent/Party Helpers

            One parent from each room is needed to be the room parent.  This parent will be in charge of coordinating and planning the holiday parties.  Don’t have time to be the room parent?  Just sign up to be a party helper if you are able to bake or purchase snacks for the party.  A list of helpers will be provided to the room parent so that they can call these volunteers for assistance.

Class parties are scheduled as follows:

            Halloween party - Monday, October 31th

            Christmas party - Thursday, December 15th

            Valentine’s party - Tuesday, February 14th

 Conference Meals            

This is a great way to show the teachers at Brookwood how much you appreciate their hard work and dedication.  For 2 nights during fall and spring conferences we provide dinner for the teachers.  If you volunteer for this activity, you will be called the week before conferences and asked what type of food you would like to bring in.

Monday, November 14, 2011 and Wednesday,

November 16, 2011 

Spring Conferences: Monday, March 26, 2012 and Tuesday, March 27, 2012

 Family Fun Night - Friday, January 20th             This is a great family event where you come to Brookwood for dinner and a movie in the gym.  Volunteers are usually needed to help pass out food and drinks during dinner and clean up the gym after the movie. 

Pancake Dinner - Thursday, February 23rd             Are you an expert at flipping pancakes?  Then your services are needed for the PTC’s pancake dinner.  Volunteers are needed to help cook and serve food and clean up after the dinner. 

Multicultural Day - Friday, March 23rd             Join the students as they take their passports and travel around the world.    Showcase another culture by making a native dish and displaying photos, clothing, and any other items of interest in order to give the students a sample of another country. 

Carnival - Friday, March 9th             Volunteers are needed on the night of carnival to run games, serve food, hand out prizes, and help with decorations.   Volunteers are also needed for the planning process which starts months in advance.  We are always looking for new ideas and suggestions in order to make Brookwood’s carnival the best it can be. 

Popcorn Days             The Brookwood Student Council sells small bags of popcorn to students for $.25 per bag.  Volunteers are needed to help pop, bag, and distribute popcorn to classrooms on these days.  Popcorn days are usually every other Friday throughout the school year.  Volunteers would need to be at Brookwood for 2-3 hours starting at 9:00 a.m. on these Fridays.
