All students at Bowen Elementary will be held to consistently high standards while sustaining Capturing Kids Hearts and PBiS, promoting Responsibility, Teamwork, Respect and Accountability.

As a collaborative team, we believe we are all valued as different and unique individuals.  We strive to know our kids and appreciate our differences by taking responsibility for ALL, regardless of ability or background.  We will also acknowledge our strengths and skills to maintain a cohesive team of staff and students working with parents while working towards the same goal:  to learn.

We, at Bowen, in order to nurture and foster life-long learners, will provide relevant, rigorous instruction through best practices to maintain high academic performance and cultivate an atmosphete of enthusiastic, self motivated readers.

 

Two hour Delay & closing Information

In the event of a Two Hour delay:

• Busses will pick up students 2 hours after their normal pick up time.   For example, if your bus normally arrives at 7:35 a.m., it will now arrive at 9:35 a.m. The afternoon drop off times would remain the ame as normal. 
• Breakfast will be served approximately 2 hours after the normally scheduled time. For Bowen, breakfast normally starts serving around 8:30 a.m., so will start serving around 10:30 a.m. 
• School will begin 2 hours after the normal start of school. For 
Bowen, since we start at 8:57 a.m., we will now start school at 10:57. Kentwood Staff will also report two hours after their normally scheduled time.
• Childcare is provided only at the Hamilton Early Childhood Center for those families already participating in the Kentwood Early Childhood Programs. (same as a cancellation day)

SCHOOL CLOSING INFORMATION:

Whenever conditions warrant the closing of school, parents are asked to monitor the local television and radio stations beginning at 6:00 a.m. Every attempt is made to have the information broadcast no

• If school is cancelled, all practices and rehearsals are also cancelled. A decision will be made at 1:00 p.m. regarding sporting events, and evening programs.

• There is no transportation to other districts.

• Childcare is provided for those families already participating in the Kentwood Childcare Programs. 

• Parents should listen to local radio and television stations: B93.7, WGRD AM & FM, WGUV, WKLQ, WLAV AM & FM, WOOD TV-8, WXMI TV-17, WWMT TV-3, and WZZM TV-13.

• We also post the closing information on the Kentwood Public Schools Facebook page and our Kentwoodps.org web site.

                                Morning Procedures

School begins at 8:55 am.  Playground supervision starts at 8:35.  Please do not send your child to school before this time.  Only students having breakfast may enter the building in the morning. Children must be outside until the bell rings (unless it is raining, when all students will enter through the front door.)

Notice to Kentwood Public Schools Fifth Grade Parents

Notice to Kentwood Public Schools Fifth Grade Parents,

 

The Kentwood Board of Education has established a program of reproductive health in accordance with the State of Michigan Public Act 226/335/289.  The Board of Education, by recommendation of the Kentwood Reproductive Health Advisory Committee, has adopted an elementary program for reproductive health to be taught at the fifth grade level.  The Advisory Committee is composed of parents, educators, clergy, medical professionals and other community members.

 

According to these acts, parents/guardians have the right to review the material to be utilized in this program.  In compliance with the statute, the materials will be made available for review at a 6:00 PM meeting on Monday, December 8, at Glenwood Elementary in the Media Center.  At that time parents may review materials used in the fifth grade reproductive health program.

 

By law, parents/guardians have the right to excuse their child from participation in the reproductive health unit without academic penalty.  If your family decision is to excuse your child from participation, please call your child's teacher to make her/him aware of your decision.
