Readiness Pre-School What Type of Program Do We Offer? The Michigan School Readiness Program, a FREE preschool program for 4 year olds who qualify. - Morning or afternoon sessions, Monday – Thursday

About The Program The Readiness Program meets 2 ½ hours per day, four days a week (M-TH), with morning or afternoon sessions. Transportation is NOT included at this time. The program is licensed and staffed by experienced teachers certified in early childhood education. The children are stimulated and encouraged in carefully planned activities that will allow for development t their own rate. This program offers outreach to families through home visits, workshops and participation in the classroom. Eligibility To be eligible for the Readiness Preschool program, the child must be four years old before December 1 of the year the child is applying. Must also meet two of the following state-developed criteria: - Low birth weight
- Developmentally immature (as determined by screening assessment)
- Physical and/or sexual abuse and neglect
- Nutritional deficiencies
- Long-term or chronic illness
- Diagnosed handicapping condition (mainstreamed)
- Lack of a stable support system of residence
- Destructive or violent temperament
- Substance abuse or addiction
- Language deficiency or immaturity
- Non-English or limited English speaking household
- Family history of low school achievement or dropout
- Family history of delinquency
- Family history of diagnosed family problems
- Low parental/sibling education attainment or illiteracy
- Single paren’t
- Unemployed parent/parents
- Low family income
- Family density
- Parental/sibling loss by death or parental loss by divorce
- Teenage parent
- Chronically ill parent/sibling (physical, mental or emotional)
- Incarcerated parent
- Housing in rural or segregated area
- Other (as indicated by applicant and presented to the State Board of Education)
Information on eligibility is gathered through a confidential application and enrollment process. Program Details: 4 year-old Preschool (30 weeks) FREE Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday 9:15-11:45 a.m. or 1:00-3:3 Classes held at Bowen Elementary, Challenger Elementary, Glenwood Elementary, Southwood Elementary, and Townline Elementary (pending funding)Mid-September through Mid-May Children must be four years old by December 1, 2010 and toilet trained. How Can You Enroll Your Child?Call the Early Childhood Office at 493-5693 for more information or to register your child, download and complete the Readiness Application - Family must reside in the Kentwood Public School District
- Parent/Guardian must complete enrollment application
- Parent/Guardian must provide child’s certified Birth Certificate.
- Parent/Guardian must provide proof of residence (Ex. Current rent/mortgage receipt, utility bill with name and address)
- Child will need a current physical and up-to-date immunization record.
