Kentwood Band and Orchestra Boosters

Congratulations Kentwood! Kentwood Public Schools and the Kentwood Community have been designated as "Best 100 Communities for Music Education in America." This recognition has come form the American Music Conference. Click on the link to see what this involves!

High School Bands:

Falcon Marching Band:

The East Kentwood Falcon Marching Band is an award-winning band that performs at various competitions on a local level each fall. The marching band also plays during half-time at home football games. The Falcon Marching Band marches each September in the Celebration on the Grand Parade. In addition, many members march each July 4 in the Kentwood 4th of July Parade. For several years, the Falcon Marching Band held the distinction of being Michigan's largest Marching Band, having more members than any State High School, College and University Marching Bands.

Symphonic Wind Ensemble:

The Symphonic Wind Ensemble is comprised of advanced musicians performing at the college level. Auditions are held by the Directors for membership in this Ensemble.

Symphonic Band:

Students are selected for this advanced-level Band by the directors based on their audition performance.

Concert Band:

Students in Concert Band continue to develop skills associated with tone quality and technique. Concert Band is a performance oriented class.

Freshman Band:

This band is where most band members begin their High School band experience. They develop skills associated with tone quality and technique. Freshman Band is a performance oriented class.

Jazz Band:

Currently, there are three performing Jazz Ensembles at East Kentwood High School, with approximately 70 members. These classes meet during 'Zero' hour(6:30 to 7:30 am) 3 to 4 days a week. The East Kentwood Jazz Ensemble (Jazz 1) consistently earns top rankings and awards at the various Jazz Festivals and Competitions they perform in throughout the year. The three Jazz Bands are made up of current Band and Orchestra members who are interested in learning Jazz Techniques and Performance skills.

Middle School Bands:

Band is available to all incoming 6th grade students. 6th grade band students meet every other day with like instruments. They work on learning the fundamentals of reading music and their specific instruments. 7th & 8th grade students meet every day, and continue to develop their musical and instrumental skills as individuals, as well as a group. Each grade level performs three concerts per year.

Jazz Band is offered to 7th and 8th grade band students in the Spring as an after school activity. This extension to Concert band gives students another avenue to develop their musical skills. Rehearsals are once a week and this group performs at the Spring concert.
