Kentwood Aquatics Center - Kentwood Aquatics Club - Mission Statement

This club is Kentwood's Age Group Swim Program.  Swimmers ages can vary between 5 to 18 years old.  This program is for boys and girls and the participants will compete with other teams in the West Michigan Swim League.

Members of KAC are trained to compete against other children of the same sex and about the same age.  The swimmers will be placed intogroups based on age.  These groups include: 8 & unders, 9 & 10, 11 & 12, and 13 & up.  The age assignments are based on the swimmer's age on December 1 for the Winter season and June 1 during the Summer season.

Swimmers can expect to learn the four competitive strokes (Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Butterfly).  They can also expect to swim each of the seven different competitive events in a meet situation.

Our emphasis will be having each swimmer participate to the best of their ability.  KAC coaches will encourage each swimmer to obtain a "best time" when they swim.

Winning will not be a major goal.  At this level of competition, winning individual events or team swim meets, will be considered a desirable by-product of applying the proper technique an making a good effort.

Swimming is a great blend of an individual and a team activity.  The cooperation that is required of each swimmer is very beneficial to their social development. The aspect of swimming for the team, as well as for the individual, is a valuable part of this experience. Helping one another, whether as a relay swimmer, demonstrator, mentor for a teammate, or as a supporter of one's teammates are all necessary lessons in life.

We feel that swimming is a great activity, a super age group sport and a fun team experience.  We hope to promote all of these aspects while your child is a member of the Kentwood Aquatics Club.  With your help and encouragement your child can benefit from this sport in all these ways.
